Urban complex "Historical Center"

This is part of the historical monuments and is made up of three buildings: the Municipal Library Codlea, House of Culture and the old town hall converted into a Museum, which is a very important objective for Codlea municipality, a true cultural dowry.


The Library was build in 1980 and originally had a double destination: the court seat building and Mail- Telegraph Office, by telephone at that time. The building is characterized by an architecture that combines Baroque elements with neoclassical elements.

House of Culture is a building that displays a variety of styles, whose construction began in 1881 and was finished only in 1925. Built in the neoclassical style with baroque influences and specific Saxon arhitecture elements, building is an important center to promote the cultural values.

The old Town Hall- Museum now, built above the city gate. In 1775, construction is improved, and between 1828 to 1830, the construction gets the shape of today.

Măgura Peak

Măgura Peak

"Magura Codlei" Peak, with an altitude of 1292 m, part of Persian Mountains, mountainous group  of Carpathian Curvature,  the southern group of the Oriental Carpathians and represents a main point of attraction of the city, especially for lovers of mountains and hiking trails.
Magura Codlei also serves as a barometer of Barsa. Depending on the presence or absence of clouds hat, the weather will be closed or serene.
Magura Codlei area is under the influence of air currents rising and falling powerful, threatening the aircraft.

Codlea Museum

Codlea Museum

Inaugurated on May 13, 2016, Codlea Traditional Museum of Local Public Administration is a comprehensive project for the development and modernization of the historical center of Codlea. Creation the museum was a joint effort of Codlea locals, through donations of exhibits that can be admired inside it.
Housed in the old city hall building, found in historical monuments, in the shape of today since 1829, the museum is a dream come true to bring the history of the Germans, Romanians, Hungarians and Gypsies people under the same roof.

The Parks

The Parks

Park of the Sun or ” În Arini”

It is the largest city park, an oasis of tranquility and fresh air, where you can walk in a particularly scenic setting. From the main driveway you can see one of the oldest restaurants from Codlea since 1927- Eden restaurant. Also children can play freely in the proper place, and adults can join different games in the arranged wood gazebo in the park.


Shadow Park

Shadow Park is found in the area of Theoretical Highschool Codlea, houses the oldest city water reservoir and former fountain that feed water basin called "The Jail", both built around 1900.

The pool of Codlea

The pool of Codlea

It was set in 1904 by the Association efforts for beautification of Codlea. The pool is fed by a spring of Goldbach's - Golden Brook - whose water has a temperature of 18 ° C throughout the year. In 1905 the inn was set in the forest currently arranged as a summer terrace. In the period 1932-1936, through voluntary work, the basin has been increased to 50 m long and 15 m wide. The area also includes two lakes, spanning an area of 414 hectares, harboring a rich content in fish and represents a relaxation and recreation means.
10 km away from Codlea and 25 km from Brasov, access can be made from DN 1 from Pitch "Trajan's Inn", or through the woods on a forest road.

High School ”Ioan Pascu”

High School ”Ioan Pascu”

Romanian state first school was built in 1928 when the first cornerstone laid and poured the foundation, which was received on January 9, 1933.
The project was proposed by Ioan Pascu, director in 1921. His efforts and Minister of Religious Affairs and Education, and the Codlea locals, led to the fulfillment of his plan. So that in 1934, the school was officially inaugurated.
New and beautiful building in the park, then called King Carol I Park (now Park with Sun), endures as a symbol over time!

Maial area

Maial area

Maial area, located at the foot of Magura Codlea, hosts each year in June ”Kronenfest Traditional Feast”. Formerly organized the day of Pentecost, the feast represent the conclusion of the school year (Celebration wreath). Today it has become a tradition for the whole community of Codlea.
Band concerts are held here, light and folk music performances, dances, and old habits such as child snail march, unique in Transylvania,also called ”Circle Wonderland” set up in 1899; crowned pillar climbing, 15 m high. These habits kept till today as a bridge between past and present.

Orthodox Church "Ascension"

Orthodox Church "Ascension"

Codlea Romanian Orthodox Church, dedicated to "Ascension" was built in 1783. By building up its believers gathered in a chapel. They had cemetery, as confirmed by a cross dating from 1726 and which is now situated in the churchyard in front of the linden tree, which was planted in 1783. In the same year on 7 June, a delegation of Romanian greeted Emperor Joseph II who passed through Codlea, asking for a church. King has indicated the actual place that was built brick church, which at first had boat-shaped.

Black Fortress - Schwarzburg

Black Fortress - Schwarzburg

It was built by the Teutonic Knights and German settlers in the period 1211-1225, on top of a hill (980 m) at the foot of Magura Codlea, the fortress took refuge role and supervision of commercial road that connected the province of Sibiu to Barsa, so called "road of Saxons".
Fortress lasted until 1345, when it was destroyed by fire during the Tartar invasion and was not rebuilt again.

Evangelical Church of Codlea

Evangelical Church of Codlea

It is the oldest and the most important historical monument, built in the second half of the thirteenth century, protected by battlements, until 1432, when the church fortress was built. The ceiling of the church, built in 1702, the organ with 2,000 pipes, the altar, the pulpit and the bell tower with Gothic windows, complete panorama, giving visitors ample opportunities to get to know the history, culture and civilization of this region.
